GHETTO FUNK PRESENTS: Bring The Boom (GFP16)(2013)

Some of you may be aware that Bim and Ben lead bands with brooms and furthermore that Ben’s band bangs and Bim’s band booms. While you’re pondering that, here’s something else that booms – Ghetto Funk‘s forthcoming Bring The Boom EP. JFB & Dancefloor Outlaws give Desmond Dekker some dnb boom, Timothy Wisdom gives LL Cool J some ghetto funk boom (don’t call it a comeback) and Tom Drummond has what sounds like an …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

GHETTO FUNK presents: SLYNK (GFP15)(2013)

Slynk by name he may be, but there’s nothing furtive about his music. Indeed, far from skulking quietly in the background this man’s latest four track EP is more likely to be found sashaying flamboyantly down Main Street in the electro-disco-boogie district of Breaksville, with everything hanging out. Like samples for example – which are cut up, and liberally incorporated into every track on this next vinyl-only offering from the Ghetto …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

GHETTO FUNK presents: B-SIDE (GFP14)(2013)

The second of two exercises in breaks n bass wobble from the Ghetto Funk stable this month and this one’s from B-Side mixing and matching his classic hip-hop and funk samples over warping bottom end noise. It’s packed to the gills with hammering synth bass and a surfeit of moments for the kids to grab mates excitedly and go, ‘wait for it – here’s the drop!’ (or indeed float one of those orange soundcloud spoilers saying the same thing …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

GHETTO FUNK presents: BASEMENT FREAKS (GFPD)(2013) Free download

Six million ways to roll and here’s two of them for free download as the mighty Basement Freaks turns up on the mighty Ghetto Funk label. There’s lots of California love here as he appropriates a veritable smorgasbord of West Coast samples including, er, …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

GHETTO FUNK presents: FATHER FUNK (GFPD13)(2013) Free download from 13.2.13

Father Funk‘s name always sounds to me like a slightly testy personification of the greatest musical genre known to man (“Do you think I’m made of funk?”, “Funk doesn’t grow on trees you know”, “I’m not sleeping, I’m just resting my funk” etc. etc.) which, is ironic because his music is the very thing to prompt just such a testy personification to tell the ghetto funk kids to, “Turn that bloody noise down!” And this four tracker is no exception – the …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

SOME DJ: Ghetto Funk Presents (GFPD08) (2012)
Latest in a run of freebie EPs from the mighty Ghetto Funk machine is this four-tracker from Some DJ. It would have gone up a lot earlier but for my personal battle with the mighty Apple Macintosh machine. All I can say is there’s a letter heading to California you smug-faced, air-conditioned wankers – I know where you fucking live. More difficult to track down might be Some DJ who’s struck on a unique way of avoiding both …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM
