ALDO VANUCCI feat. KYLIE AULDIST, BOO & STONE KAWALA: Love Is Loops Vol. 2 (2013)

October’s depressing isn’t it? By the time those thirty-one days are up, it’s cold as piss, feral teenagers have burnt your house down because you didn’t give them a ‘treat’ on Halloween and the nights are longer. Happily though, there’s a shining beacon amid the misery – namely that the start of the month will be greeted by Plymouth’s 14th best dj, Aldo Vanucci who follows up his excellent Love Is Loops EP with an even better volume 2. Three neo-northern soul bangers and a slab of daisy age hip-hop anyone? Thought so. Kylie Auldist is back on stomper Get A Hold On …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

HARDLY SUBTLE: ‘Dub Of The Bay/ Stop Me Like This’ 7″/ Burning Starlight free download (2013)

Hello – it’s the Hardly Subtle crew of Aldo Vanucci and Dave Remix coming up trumps again with three flavours of effortless reggae fyah. Two of these are available in seven inch format: Otis’s Dock Of The Bay flipped vintage reggae style as Dub Of The Bay and Stop Me Like This. There’s no need to stop me if you think you’ve heard that second one before by the way – you almost certainly have but not like this. Getting classic Smiths to sound like classic Specials is a vast …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

RUCKUS ROBOTICUS feat. SPANKY WILSON: Thank God It’s Funky (2012) + video

The term ‘funky’ is abused with such heinous frequency when applied to music that Thank God It’s Funky is a sentiment I experience more frequently than you might expect on a preliminary listen to anything that PR assures me is ‘funky.’ Happily, Ohio producer (and regular Solid Steel Radio guest) Ruckus Roboticus‘s hook-up with legendary soul-queen Spanky Wilson (of funky Cream-cover Sunshine Of Your Love fame) is indeed, ‘funky.’ However, should its scuzzy funk-...READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

ALDO VANUCCI feat. KYLIE AULDIST & A.S.M: Love Is Loops EP (2012)

The title of the forthcoming EP from Plymouth’s 14th best dj, Aldo Vanucci, would suggest that he loves loops. Now I’ve heard it, I love Aldo. In fact I think I might even want to bum him a bit for first track You’re All Show which enlists Oz soul sister Kylie Auldist. Actually, I might want to bum her too. Ostensibly the lyrics tear a new one for some preening tosser but in actuality it’s a twenty-first century big-band-funk-soul steamroller that tears a …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

HARDLY SUBTLE: Hardly Subtle EP 2 (2012)

HARDLY SUBTLE: Hardly Subtle EP 2 (2012)
[RATING: 5/5]
The New Year’s mere days old and those cheeky West Country bad boyz Hardly Subtle (a.k.a. Aldo Vanucci and Dave Remix) are already getting their Joe Cockers out for Pharoahe Monch on this, exposing their Family Stones to LL Cool J and doing things to Etta James that she never dreamed of when she released Something’s Got A Hold On Me in 1962. Mash-up city! It’s hardly subtle is it? Fuck subtle! Let’s…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

ALDO VANUCCI: Hardly Subtle EP 1 (2011)

HARDLY SUBTLE: Hardly Subtle EP 1 (2011)
Hot on the heels of his Party Breaks EP Vol 2 is news of more mighty, mashed-up breaks from Signor Aldo Vanucci and his mate 'Remix' Dave of Bristol (not his real name one suspects) a.k.a Hardly Subtle. For some reason ‘Hardly Subtle’ sounds to me a bit like one of those public schoolboy names – you know – like ‘Strangely Brown’ or something – in fact the two of them were inseparable – used to fag for the head boy and play ‘soggy biscuit’ after ‘lights-out’ but bought it during the first battle of the Somme…In contrast (and luckily for us), the four tracks…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

ALDO VANUCCI: Party Breaks Vol. 2 – EP (2011) + ‘Mysterious Sneakers’ free download
‘Fatboy Slim’s crate digger’ Aldo Vanucci, known far and wide as Plymouth’s 14th best DJ, is back and this time, Matthew, he’s come as pop slag. Is that Sean Paul I can hear? Crooklyn Clan? A bit of Duck Sauce? KC & The Sunshine Band? Yup, it all goes in the blender with some rather large beats. Vanucci, you have no shame. When playing out, out, it’s probably best to save these until everyone’s really hammered for maximum effect
