DUBBLE D: Thud (2013)

Let’s do the Timewarp again as the Greek label’s new one from Dubble D lands with a Thud. Well more of a mild breaks nod and a clap really. The Belgian producer’s recent mellow midtempo contribution to the label’s Lime Sorbet Vol. 3 comp. gets a dedicated release with no fewer than four remixes. EZ Icarus goes for an Alex Reece-ish dnb angle with a rapped vocal courtesy of MC J…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

PEDIGREE CUTS: Pedigree Cuts Remixed! (2013)

It’s that Pedigree Cuts lot again. No not the dog grooming service from County Durham – they’re hardly likely to put out a twenty-two strong remix compilation are they? I’m referring to Skeewiff‘s label of course. Twenty-two remixes? Have they got that many? Man, you don’t know the half of it – this is just the best of the recent ones. In fact this …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

OMEGAMAN: El O’Man Boogaloo (2013)

Inveterate breakbeat remixer Omegaman (not to be confused with the similarly-named 1971 Charlton Heston flick) is just about to drop this pleasant slice of original neo-boogaloo entitled El O’Man Boogaloo – a release on which he has hooked up with All Good Funk Alliance, Skeewiff and Mo Horizons on a remix tip. And made sure you get the instros of all the above. Which has to beat haring around a deserted post-apocalyptic L.A. firing …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

EMPRESARIOS: El Sonido Magico Remixed (2013)

What with it being half a year down the line from the release of Empresarios‘ El Sonido Magico, it’s remix o’clock and a dirty bakers dozen of producers have been assembled to show entrepreneurial innovation with the stems of the magic sound of Fort Knox Recordings‘ purveyors of tropicaliente. Which means that G Flux, Fort Knox Five, Omegaman, Bobby C Sound TV, All Good Funk Alliance, Basement Freaks, Solo Moderna, Stereo …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

Various: BBP Remixed (2013)

Apparently May is international ghetto funk/ nufunk/ breaks remix month for here is Badboe‘s heavyweight scene label Breakbeat Paradise with twelve of the best from the BBP library getting a rework. Perhaps unsurprisingly, among those being remixed are some of the remixers. That’ll be Tom Drummond, Jayl Funk and Badboe himself – of course – after all, what kind of man throws a party and then doesn’t turn up to his own event? However not even Boe gets the pleasure of …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

JOHNNYPLUSE: The Book Of Lies Remixed (2013) + The Prowler (Django party mix) Free download

If you’re a producer, it has become somewhat de rigeur of late, to follow the release of ‘the’ album (i.e. yours) with ‘the remix album’ – i.e. by ‘them’. You know, a crew of usually like-minded individuals who, the minute they get their grubby mitts on those stems, throw the owner a sly grin as if to say, ‘this shit is mine now and I’m going to go to town on it’ and then go to town on it. A bit like when that dodgy mechanic, takes your car keys and slams the door extra hard before wheel-spinning your automotive pride and joy onto the …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

SKEEWIFF: Man Turns Animal Remixed (2013)

I was contacted the other day by a concerned member of the public about the lack of Skeewiff coverage on MB and, as any good Roman Emperor knows, it’s best to give the public what they want. Since the monkey is now on the Skeewiff mailing list you’ll no doubt be hearing a lot more about them henceforth – starting with this album remix EP, Man Turns Animal! Remixed. And really, howcould you not be feeling a release that sports more or less the same retro-erotica cover as the LP …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

LAKESHORE DRIVE: Living The Funk EP (2012)

Living the funk? James Brown lived the funk and frankly there was a fair amount of drugs, wife-beating and jail involved. I think it’s safe to assume however that Lakeshore Drive’s Living The Funk EP is a celebration of the music invented by the big man than the more questionable elements of his lifestyle. The title track is a tight little slice of programmed instrumental breakbeat funk with a nod to…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM
