Introducing the THE SWEET DIVINES…
When latterday funky soul legends The Dansettes (of Let’s Boogaloo 3/ Oh My fame) split-up, the result was an amoebalike transformation into two new entities, albeit with crazy vocal soul talent and considerably more easy on the eye (Not all that amoeba-like really, then. Zoological Ed.). The first of these was The Nouvellas (featured over the last month) the second, put together by Jennie and JB of Dansettes, is The Sweet Divines whose line-up also numbers three other female vocalists (Heather, Ashley and Pamela) and the rest of JB’s Divine Rhythm Soul band. With a pedigree that includes singing backing vocals for Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, you can’t go wrong really – this is old school funk and soul in the Stax/ Motown soul-sister mold.
