MOOQEE - Rippin It Up / Polar Crunk - 2007 - (Promo) Single review

MOOQEE – Rippin Up The Party/ Polar Crunk – 2007 – (Promo) Single review
RATING: 5/5

If anyone could get away with sampling Robbie Williams’ Rock DJ and making it credible – I guess it would be Mooqee - a man who also sees fit to bung in a bit of kindred spirit Mark Ronson’s Ooh Wee on Rippin Up The Party. From what I've heard, he's used more obvious samples than he has a right to have produced decent tracks with and yet his luck seems to be holding. His website’s still under construction and he’s described as ‘breakbeat/ hip-hop/ electronica’ on his myspace though he’s not fooling me – this stuff used to be called ‘big beat’ in the 90s – but most of it wasn’t this good. Not that Rippin Up The Party is the best track on this promo - that’ll be Polar Crunk. This track features the Joe Thomas Polarizer sample (also used by The High And Mighty on 90s hip-hop classic B-Boy Document, fact fans) as well as a b-line with more bounce than a sugar-rushing fat kid in an inflatable castle. Is it too early for a 90s revival? Apparently not but if it sounds like this, it’s probably ok.
Out now.

Ha ha yes cheesy but good I'd say... Big Beat though eh, that takes me back!

Looks like he's doing Sugarbeat in Leeds on 6/10 so I might try and swing by the Elbow Room for that one.
