THE SNUGS – Strugglin – 2007 – 45 review
RATING: 5/5
The Snugs might well be struggling with any number of things but producing a dancefloor monster isn’t one of them. Kind of like Sharon Jones with beats by Diamond D this would sound like it had been made in 1969 but for the fact that it sounds like it was produced in 1993 which kind of makes it very 2007. All the elements of sixties' sister soul (horns, organs, and the smoky vocals etc.) are on here but they use a hip hop aesthetic to slow down the bpms slightly and up the presence of the rhythm section to a point where it is now capable of loosening your bowels at a very low volume or at some distance from speaker source. Or both. Oh yeah – and Leah Symons sultry voice is the icing on the cake. Strugglin' is essential. Don’t argue.
Out now.
