THE BLACK KEYS - Just Got To Be / Black Door - 2007 - Single review

THE BLACK KEYS – Just Got To Be/ The Black Door – 2007 – 7” Single review
RATING: 3.5/5

I haven’t got on as well with Magic Potion as previous Black Keys LPs. I know it’s the blues but (apart from on the godlike Your Touch) they really do sound quite depressed on it. Appropriately enough Dan Auerbach’s beautiful raw vocals still convey a sense of having lived two lifetimes of hardship, during every day of which at least 80 cigarettes were consumed. Both the tracks on this are off the album and both are a tad slower, a tad heavier and several degrees more melancholy than the rest of their back catalogue. Still, if you like dirty electric blues riffs the size of planets and production that sounds like it was done in a Victorian gents public toilet neither of these should disappoint.
