BIG M presents: THE BREAKBEAT JUNKIE vs. DJP (2012)

BIG M presents: THE BREAKBEAT JUNKIE vs. DJP (2012)
Funky breaks dream team The Breakbeat Junkie and DJP hook-up again and cook up some new heat for the Big M label – three joint efforts and DJP’s solo banger Say Word. I’m always a sucker for party hip-hop so it’s the latter that takes my fancy the most with its inspired employment of Treacherous Three and solo Spoonie G vocals. You can’t get much more old school than that and the results sound like the kind of hook-laden feel-good track that seems perpetually just beyond People Under The Stairs grasp. Nice one DJP. The remaining three…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

BIG M Presents: More Banging Artists (2011) 12”

BIG M Presents: More Banging Artists (2011) 12”
Big M’s latest wax project hops between sub-genres like a right beat slut. It delivers an wobbly uptempo Bollywood ghetto funk from Nynfus Corp, a straight up funky breaks version of funky soul staple Hold On I’m Comin’ from Nev Scott & Waynessential, mid-tempo Nu-Yorican breaks from The Breakbeat Junkie and finishes up with Uppercut Continue’s dubstep exploration of ‘that night’ when Charlie Sheen’s crack became famous.…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

STEREO BEATZ: Get Funky EP (2011)

STEREO BEATZ: Get Funky EP (2011)
Big M new boy Stereo Beatz makes his presence felt with this three track EP that covers – er – three bases in the nu/ghetto funk arena – the disco mashup one, the wobbly bass one and the remix one. First up is We Need Some Funky Horns which grafts a bit of twenty-first century bottom end on the ass of an old KC & The Sunshine Band number. The other two tracks are a brace of remixes. Timothy Wisdom (who, it has to be said, sounds like he is a character off legendary seventies kids TV Rentaghost) does the business with SB’s Rockin’ The Party…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

BIG M PRODUCTIONS: Big M Bootie Vol. 10 – 2011
Big Mick goes big in every way on the latest bootleg bomb from his very own label here giving Jimi, Lulu, Bob Seger and Shirley Ellis the breakbeat workover they always wanted but were too shy to ask for. Hendrix is ushered towards the Balearic big club arena (a la recent offerings from rival stable Manmade Recordings) by the beat on Watchtower (no, really), Lulu and Bob feel…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM
