RAMSKANK: Ghetta BigBeat (2013) All proceeds to Cancer Research UK

Reports of big beat bad boy Ramskank‘s exit from the world of production in the last year appear to have been greatly exaggerated for here he is with a 12 track album – Ghetta BigBeat. What can have prompted him to give up the comforts of his Heffner-like luxury Florida retirement condo though? Well, actually he does a lot of work for charity (though he doesn’t like to talk about it) and one hundred per cent of the proceeds of this go to …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

RAM SKANK: Madcap EP (2012)

Heads up folks, Ram Skank is back once more Madcap Diggin’ with this 5-tracker of vintage-sounding big beat. The title cut starts off in a doomy Prodigy/ Diesel Power manner before switching to upbeat party breaks, Break Up is like classic early Chemicals, and Bonus Breakathon Beats does what it says on the tin. Naturally if you’re going to go rooting around in the audio soil like a drunken pirate who can’t remember where READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

RORY HOY – Bounce Rock/ Everybody Wants To Be A DJ (2012)

I think Pulpfusion might have started something with his Wrong World foray into ‘ghetto metal.’ Here’s the burgeoning scene’s latest progeny in the shape of Rory Hoy‘s forthcoming release on the Bulabeats label. That’ll be Bounce Rock then which does what it says on the tin. I got out of breath just listening to it. And then I heard Saxon Scoundrels‘ heavier remix and had to go and have a cup of tea and a lie-down. The sentiment of the ...READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

RAM SKANK: Superstylin’ (2012)

Sarf Londoner and sometime BigM artist Ram Skank returns in June on the splendidly named Pig Balls Records label with the eight-track Superstylin’. On this he continues his mission to bring back big beat – in a way that’ll keep the ghetto funk posse happy.…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

PROSPER & RORY HOY: Get Dat Boogie Chase EP (2011)

PROSPER & RORY HOY: Get Dat Boogie Chase EP (2011)
I think this might just be my favourite Big M release since Vol 8 of Big M Productions (the one with Breakbeat Junkie & DJPs massive Drop Down on it) came out. In a large part, it has to be said, this is because of the cumbia stylings of Todo Es Nuevo for, as any MB regulars will know, the monkey’s all over a big latin breaks effort. …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

RORY HOY: Tonite EP (2011)

RORY HOY: Tonite EP (2011)
Rory Hoy comes straight outta Knaresborough (no, really) again, sidesteps the temptation to go ghetto and wobble up the bass and comes through with some booming nu funk heat on this latest drop from Big M. Old school funk and hip-hop samples aplenty vie with Rory’s nutty production stylings and are all set to ensure (as always) some fairly pneumatic dancefloor action. He even somehow manages to get old school producer Freddy Fresh (who just happens to be label boss for Hoy’s releases on Howlin’ Records) to collaborate on the big beatisms of Trump. Arguably it’s the stop/starty nu funk/ nu disco animal of a title track that
