DAYTONER: Sunburst Radio (2012)

Penzance calling! This is what happens when you spend three years locked in a shed above the radioactive granite of Cornwall. The PR has it that Daytoner’s Sunburst Radio is a, “retro-ride through Latin American, Blues, Jazz, Swing and Motown rhythms, underpinned by dance floor break beats, linked by valve-age voices” and that’s pretty much spot on. Our man conjures a combination of late forties/ early fifties atmosphere for music that never existed back then lending his breakbeat rhythms a classy retro sheen. It’s like a Bakelite …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

DAYTONER: On my Own (2012)

UK producer Daytoner gets his first drop on Smoove’s ‘northern jazz’ breaks label and he’s on his own. He’s not really of course – that’s all bollocks. I hate scat and when I say ‘scat’ I refer to the jazz style of singing and not those coprophagic pornos that that bloke at school who smelt of jizz used to go on about. Come to think of it - I ain’t even too keen on jazz - so I was surprised (and I can’t believe I’m going to say this) to find myself appreciating a track containing both jazz and scat. That and the fact that it contains…READ THE REST AT MONKEYBOXING.COM

RENEGADES OF JAZZ: Karabine EP – Release details
Everyone keeps trying to jazz me at the moment. No, that’s not an euphemism, it’s just that the monkey’s inbox keeps being filled (no, that’s not one either) with jazzy business – or that. And so we come to Renegades Of Jazz (i.e. David Hanke of Mash & Munkee) - the big signing to new label WASS of which the owner, king of the northern beats (i.e. Smoove of Smoove & Turrell), himself claims combines, ”jazz dance and b-boy funk to devastating effect.” The phrase ‘jazz dance’ is like a bit like a cold shower of piss…READ THE REST AT MONKEYBOXING.COM
