POETS OF RHYTHM vs. EDAN: Video (part 2) (2013)

Not had enough of Edan in a glossy black wig eh? I refer, of course, to his effortless cutting between Poets Of Rhythm wax whilst rhyming promo verse over the top in the apparently ‘gone viral’ Poets Of Rhythm vs. Edan video part 1. Well, now’s your chance to catch the reclusive legendary rapper/ dj/ producer looking quite a bit like Joey Ramone once more. Both videos are part of the PR campaign by Daptone to big up the Poets Of Rhythm …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

DAPTONE presents: THE POETS OF RHYTHM feat. EDAN video (2013)

Daptone‘s got a brand new bag! Well, brand new old bag. Why? Because they’re re-releasing a ‘best of’ anthology from German retro funkers Poets Of Rhythm. The Poets were famously the backing band for Lyrics Born on I Changed My Mind off Quannum’s classic ’98 Spectrum LP and purveyors of instrumental funky soul of such quality in general that they were a big influence on Daptone. Anyway – what better way to promo the album than with a video. How about one in which a dj …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

EDAN: UK Tour April 4th – 12th (2013)

The Humble Magnificent, Edan, appears in the UK this month for a rare and brief tour starting this week. It’ll be a dj set and (on two dates) a live PA and he’ll be accompanied by Oxygen who recently featured on MB with his Freqnik & WDRE-produced single. Boston rapper/ producer Edan set the world alight in the early 2000s with two psychedelic, cut-and-paste, ‘underground’ hiphop LPs (Primitive Plus andBeauty & The Beat) which were steeped in the four skills. In fact, they were so critically acclaimed he was in danger of appearing in …READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM

DJ FORMAT: New LP ‘Statement Of Intent’ due March (2012) + promo video
DJ Format’s back hurrah! And it doesn’t look like he’s going to be taking any prisoners with his first full length LP since 2005’s If You Can’t Join ‘Em…Beat ‘Em. How long!? Yeah, I know - tell me about it. Statement Of Intent is due for a March release and looks all set to feature the usual fat-funky boom-bap business (plus a bit of breaks and electro) with guest turns from underground fire-spitter Sureshot La Rock (who appeared on Format’s Mr DJ EP last year, ‘core Bostonian emcee Mr Lif, and a brace of legendary rappers nearly as famous for their absences from the scene as they are for their actual output: newly-defrosted-from-cryogenic-storage-in-the-eighties Phill Most Chill and professional ‘difficult’-third-album-dodger Edan. Plus…READ FULL POST @ MONKEYBOXING.COM
