VARIOUS: Carnibal Records 005 (2012)

Moving at breakneck speed with their release schedule, Greek label Carnibal Records drop volume 5 today and it’s the best one in a while. Lest anyone should accuse them of being a one-trick pony, this time they leap the hedges of the Latin breaks enclosure in several different directions at once. Doctor Stereo canters along the road marked Young Einstein breakstrumentals while Palov opts for the bridleway to Cut Chemist style swing-beat instrumental from J5’s Quality Control LP, for example. The Carnibal cabal step up their activity here delivering Vol. 4 of their latin breaks series (which actually came out at the end of May) before the dust has even settled in the wake of mid-May’s Vol. 3. Time was when I would receive PR for a release a couple of months before it was due to generate ‘buzz.’ Then some marketing bell-end somewhere must’ve realised that ‘buzz’ has a bell-curve and generating it too early results in premature ‘buzz’ and before you know it you’ve effectively shot your publicity load before – er – release date. I may have said this before but I’ve got a playlist on my iTunes called “When this is full enough get Serato.’’ It’s not full yet but this is definitely going to boost the numbers since every track on here is going on it. Why? Because everyone involved on this four-track collection of Latin breaks has produced such a banger this is essentially a miniature digital carnival.
