COLOR CLIMAX – You Got What You Wanted – 2008 – Single review
RATING: 5/5
Google the words ‘color climax’ and there’s an odds-on chance that the first link the web’s ‘premier’ search engine will direct you to is a site for an organisation which has been delivering ‘legendary hardcore from Denmark for over 37 years’, if you catch my drift. What you actually want is Color Climax the band who do, admittedly offer something extremely filthy - though in their case it’s funk. This cut off last year’s Plug It In LP (released for the first time on 7") is a lazy summer anthem which, it has to be said, recalls early Stone Roses as much as it does the funky Ike and Tina Turner soul bomb of which it is a cover. Not that that’s a bad thing. It features vocals from Enke and a lyric about that person who chases you for ages and then (when you become hooked) acts like they ain’t interested. What’s not to like? Plus it’s backed with the Hammond-led breakalogical Jellyfish Popcorn.
Out now on Breakin Bread.
