WU-TANG CLAN – The Heart Gently Weeps – 2008 – Single review
RATING: 3/5
What’s this? Soothing xylophone melody, mellow beat, replayed elements of The Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Have the RZA and co. gone all pussy on us? Don’t worry – this might musically resemble Lupe Fiasco’s hip-hop whimsy Daydream even down to roping in an RnB diva (in this case Erykah Badu) but they’re still all about the ‘bitches’ and the ‘motherfuckers’. On the other hand the heart gently weeps, the body heaves a sigh and the mind is generally a bit down about the fact that George Harrison's son Dhani clearly read ‘can you replay your dad's riff please’ as ‘feel free to indulge in hideous AOR fretwanking whenever possible’. Badu strives to give it all some gravity but like a teacher when some kid’s just farted in class - it’s a bit of an uphill struggle at times.
Released 26 May on Bodog
