THE SNUGS – Trying – 2008 – Single review
RATING: 5/5
The Snugs calling their first single Strugglin’ and this new one Trying is a bit like Hendrix claiming he can ‘kind of’ play the guitar and Aretha Franklin modestly admitting that she can ‘carry a tune’. Let me clarify then - because I wouldn't want you to be in any doubt - that (like Strugglin’) this tune is total flames. The band marry authentic 60s sounding ska horns to a loping, clattering breakbeat and then get singer 'Little' Hannah Collins to unleash a gorgeous breathy vocal. It’s the sort of track that makes people who’ve been eyeing each other up all night suddenly dance very close to each other. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy and can't wait for the album.
Released 22 April 2008
