CUT CHEMIST The Audience is Rural - 2006 - Single review

CUT CHEMIST: The Audience is Rural (2006) Single review
Rating: 4/5

Long ago in the pre-download era a friend once said to me, "If you like at least 3 tracks on an LP it's worth getting when you consider how much you'd pay for three singles". There is an irrefutable logic there for those who still buy hard copies of music and in applying it to Cut Chemist's LP The Audience's Listening earlier this year, I figured I'd be better off saving my money and just buying the previous single (Edan and Mr Lif collab. The Storm) instead. Had this vocal cut of the LP's title track featuring Booty Brown and Ninja been included on the LP it could all have been a different story. Essentially on this single, Cut Chemist remixes an album track and covers the fact that the lyrics aren't about anything more substantial than wanting to hear the "beat reach out" and "bass to be loud" by - er - beefing up the beat and making the bass more prominent. He also bungs on loads of horns. It worked for me.
