MAKO & THE HAWK: Spacing Rasco – Free download

MAKO & THE HAWK: Spacing Rasco – Free download
(PRESS RELEASE) Is it a mash-up or is it remix? Are these really two distinct concepts anyway? Mako and The Hawk couldn’t give a monkey’s! Shamelessly stealing Rasco’s vocals from Parker’s ‘Bristol bass’ hit Western Soul, they craftily weld the Cali Agent MC onto a new beat made from an obscure funk 45 dug up by Mako. In doing so they spawn…LISTEN/ DOWNLOAD/ READ THE REST AT MONKEYBOXING.COM

LAURA VANE & THE VIPERTONES: Am I Dreaming? – 2009 – Single review

LAURA VANE & THE VIPERTONES: Am I Dreaming? – 2009 – Single review
RATING: 4/5

‘Northern soul’ style tracks are the new black in deep funk circles these days since everyone’s ‘chasing Amy’, and no band's album would be complete without it’s own. I refer to recent output by The Bamboos, Smoove & Turrell, forthcoming releases from Cookin On 3 Burners and now Dutch/ English combo Laura Vane & The Vipertones with this promo for their imminent LP…READ THE REST AT MONKEYBOXING.COM

MAKO & THE HAWK: Shut Up And GIve It Up - Free download

MAKO & THE HAWK: Shut Up And GIve It Up - Free download
(PRESS RELEASE) The second mash-up from this duo, Mako has tried to distance himself from the project claiming that with Shut Up And Give It Up the Hawk was trying to ‘house’ him and that it sounds nothing like the "create something a bit like Rapper’s Delight" idea they had originally mooted. Despite this, the Hawk persists with the flimsy argument that

B REAL: ‘Fire’ - video

B REAL: ‘Fire’ - video
In which the ex-Cypress Hill main man goes a bit reggaeton with Damian Jr Gong Marley. Well, who else? The random video generator’s come up with lots of fire and smoke imagery for this one. And barely clad girls. And barely-clad girls appearing out of smoke. Oh, and B and D are in there occasionally. It’s jiggy.

ELEMENTAL & TOM CARUANA: Rebel Without Applause – 2009 – Album review
HIGHLIGHTS: What’s/ Where’s The Action? – Cup Of Brown Joy – Pay Me A Visit (feat. Count Bass D) - 0800 Sickie
SOUNDBITE: “Now when I say ‘Ooh’, you say ‘Long’/ ‘Ooh’, ‘Long’, ‘Ooh’ ‘Long’/ When I say ‘Herbal?’ you say ‘No thanks’, ‘Herbal?’ ‘No thanks’…
RATING: 5/5

If there are two obstacles that white boys in hip-hop who haven’t had an especially hard life must surmount it’s that they are white boys in hip-hop who haven’t had an especially hard life. Consequently, if they are to make any credible impact in hip-hop they’d better be both witty and good. As luck would have it, Elemental and Tom Caruana are very witty and very good and I have no hesitation whatsoever in pronouncing Rebel Without Applause flames.

THE BUTTSHAKERS: Talk Too Much/ Gamblin’ Man – 2009 – review
RATING: 5/5

Talkin’ of dirty funk (see Cookin on 3 Burners: This Girl 7” review) – here’s The Buttshakers. You can tell they’re dirty because they’re named after shaking your ass and have a sassy hot front-woman in the raw-vocal-powered Ciara – no not that one.
